General Abdulsalami Abubakar Urges Tinubu to Swiftly Address Growing Hardship in Nigeria

Former Military Head of State, General Abdulsalami Abubakar, has called on the Federal Government to find a swift solution to the worsening hardship in the country. He made this appeal on Tuesday in Minna, Niger State, during a meeting with the leadership of the Campaign for Democracy and Human Rights.

Speaking from his Hilltop residence, Abubakar responded to a request by the group, led by Comrade Abdullahi Mohammed Jabi, to encourage President Bola Tinubu to alleviate the current economic difficulties. Abubakar emphasized the need for measures such as reducing prices so that people can afford basic food items according to their income.

“We have passed these recommendations to the government and we hope they will implement them,” Abubakar stated.

Regarding the planned #EndBadGovernance protest set for October 1, Abubakar expressed concerns about the potential for violence. “We witnessed unnecessary carnage, theft, and criminal acts during the last protest. Innocent people suffered as a result. This should not happen again,” he warned. He also urged the government to listen to the demonstrators and act swiftly, adding, “You cannot beat a child and prevent them from crying.”

In his remarks, Jabi urged Abubakar to further advise the Federal Government to take immediate and decisive actions to ease the current hardships. He also sought the General’s support in mobilizing Nigerians for active participation in governance.
