Anthony Joshua may get a shot at redemption against Daniel Dubois following his knockout loss last year. The British heavyweight was stopped by Dubois in September at Wembley, losing his chance at the IBF title. Now, with shifting developments in the heavyweight division, a rematch could be in the works.
Dubois had set his sights on a showdown with Oleksandr Usyk for the undisputed heavyweight crown but was forced to withdraw from his scheduled title defense against Joseph Parker last month. This left Parker to dominate late replacement Martin Bakole, securing a second-round stoppage. Though Dubois retained his IBF belt due to his withdrawal, he lost his immediate path to Usyk, with Parker now lined up for the next title shot.
“This was supposed to be Dubois’ big moment, but plans change fast in this sport,” a boxing insider told The Mirror US. “Now, Usyk has to make a decision on whether to face Parker or take a different route.”
Usyk, who became undisputed heavyweight champion after edging out Tyson Fury in May, is under pressure to defend his WBO title within 30 days, per the organization’s demands. That could put his plans for an immediate rematch with Fury on hold.
Meanwhile, Joshua—who had been angling for a mega-fight with Fury in 2025—finds himself looking for a new route back to the top. With Fury’s retirement following back-to-back losses to Usyk, a clash with Dubois for the IBF title may be the next best option.
“Joshua wants big fights, and a Dubois rematch makes sense,” said a source close to Joshua’s camp. “It’s a chance to set the record straight and put himself back in the mix for undisputed status.”
As the heavyweight landscape continues to shift, all eyes are now on Dubois and whether he will entertain a second fight with Joshua—or look elsewhere to defend his title.
