Dr. Asue Ighodalo, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for the September 21 Edo State governorship election, has demanded N20 billion in damages from Adams Oshiomhole, a prominent figure in the All Progressives Congress (APC) and a sitting senator. This comes after Oshiomhole allegedly made defamatory statements against Ighodalo during a political rally in Benin City on Saturday, September 14, 2024.
Oshiomhole reportedly accused Ighodalo of being involved in a fraudulent Ponzi scheme known as “PLANWELL,” which resulted in significant financial losses for many Nigerians.
The legal notice from Ighodalo’s team calls for a public apology and retraction of the defamatory remarks on at least two national television stations and three major newspapers. It also demands N20 billion in damages for the false statements. The letter warns that if these demands are not met, legal action will be taken without further notice.
