Tears, Triumph, and Second Chances: Chidimma Adetshina’s Journey to Becoming Miss Universe Nigeria

In an emotional interview with BBC News Pidgin, Chidimma Adetshina, newly crowned Miss Universe Nigeria 2024, recounted the powerful moment she heard her name called as the winner. “When I heard my name, I had a sense of relief, a sense of accomplishment,” she shared, describing the flood of emotions that followed her victory.

Chidimma, who previously competed in Miss South Africa (SA), revealed how the world of pageantry initially seemed out of reach. “I used to think pageantry was only for younger women,” she confessed, but her curiosity grew after learning more about the opportunities it offered. In 2022, she took a shot at Miss SA but didn’t make it past the top 13. Undeterred, Chidimma returned to the competition in 2024.

Her resilience was tested once again when an invitation to compete in Miss Universe Nigeria came just after her Miss SA withdrawal. “I hesitated at first… but something in me said to push through,” Chidimma said, revealing the grit that led to her ultimate victory.

Overcome with tears, Chidimma reflected on the magnitude of her achievement and her aspirations to shine on the global stage. “Winning this crown is more than just a title – it’s a responsibility, and I’m ready to represent Nigeria at Miss Universe.”
