Jude Okoye, former manager of Psquare and elder brother to music duo Peter and Paul Okoye, has regained his freedom after spending over two months in Ikoyi prison. He was released on Wednesday evening after finally meeting the conditions of his bail in an ongoing N1.38 billion money laundering case.
Okoye, along with his company Northside Music Limited, is facing a seven-count charge before Justice A. Owoeye at the Federal High Court in Ikoyi, Lagos. The charges include allegations of laundering N1.38 billion, $1 million, and £34,537.59. He had earlier pleaded not guilty during his arraignment on February 26, 2025, and was granted bail set at N100 million.
The legal pressure intensified on March 3 when the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) filed an additional four-count charge. The EFCC accused Okoye of diverting significant sums from music-related revenues meant for his brothers.
According to court documents, the alleged misappropriated funds include $767,544.15, £34,537.59, $133,566.49, and $118,652.20. The EFCC claimed these amounts were fraudulently converted for personal use, “deliberately depriving Peter of his rightful earnings.”
In response to the new charges, the court imposed an additional bail condition of N50 million, which Okoye struggled to meet, until now.
