Just a day after his appointment, the acting Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Major General Olufemi Olatubosun Oluyede, held a high-level, closed-door meeting with Nigeria’s National Security Adviser (NSA), Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, and the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), Lieutenant General Christopher Gwabin Musa.
The strategic meeting, aimed at addressing national security, took place at the office of the National Security Adviser in Abuja.
According to a source from Defence Headquarters (DHQ) who spoke with our reporter, “The discussions were held in a secure setting within the Office of the National Security Adviser to the President, focusing broadly on the security situation in the country.”
The meeting follows President Bola Tinubu’s announcement on Wednesday appointing Major General Oluyede as the acting COAS. He will serve in this capacity while the substantive COAS, Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, is undergoing medical treatment abroad.
While details of the discussions remain undisclosed, the source indicated that the meeting addressed pressing security matters affecting the country. “As expected, they discussed key security challenges and the need for enhanced collaboration across the military branches to tackle them,” the source noted.
The gathering underscores a swift response to Nigeria’s security concerns under Major General Oluyede’s interim leadership.
His appointment marks a decisive moment for the nation as it continues to confront complex security challenges across multiple regions.
