The Nigerian Army has announced the appointment of Lieutenant Colonel Onyinyechi Anele as the Acting Director of Army Public Relations, marking a historic milestone as she becomes the first woman to hold the position.

Anele, a member of Direct Regular Course 15 and a fellow of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations, will officially assume the role on April 22, 2025. She succeeds Major General Onyema Nwachukwu, who has been reassigned to the Nigerian Army Heritage and Future Centre.

Before her appointment, Lt. Col. Anele completed a six-month strategic leadership course at the Nigerian Army Resource Centre and was serving in the Department of Civil-Military Relations. She had also previously worked as the Public Relations Officer in the Office of the Chief of Army Staff.

Her promotion reflects the Nigerian Army’s growing emphasis on diversity and professional excellence in leadership roles.
