“You Can’t Silence Me!” – Sowore Defies Court Order, Slams APC Chieftains

Activist and former presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore, has vowed to remain vocal against injustice despite a court order requiring him to surrender his international passport as part of his bail conditions in a cybercrime case.

Speaking on Friday, Sowore dismissed any attempts to intimidate him, emphasizing that no one could suppress his voice or make him disappear.“The judge has finally granted bail after the hearing yesterday, and the bail conditions are very mathematical, so I leave it for the lawyers,” Sowore stated.

“But just to inform the Nigerian people, we are resolute in our fight to free this country from the grip of mediocrity. We are committed to ensuring that the welfare of Nigerians remains paramount.”

The case against him, brought by the Nigeria Police, stems from his public remarks referring to Inspector-General Kayode Egbetokun as an “illegal IGP.” However, Sowore remained defiant, making it clear that the legal battle would not deter him from his activism.

Taking aim at two prominent All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftains, former governors Rotimi Amaechi and Nasir El-Rufai, Sowore accused them of opportunism, suggesting that their activism was politically motivated.

“We aren’t doing this because elections are around the corner,” he asserted. “We are not emergency activists like El-Rufai, Amaechi, and the rest of them. For us, fighting injustice is a lifelong commitment. Our activism is driven by conviction, not election cycles.”

Reiterating his stance against repression, Sowore declared, “I know the police are interested in my passport, and the judge has asked me to deposit it. You can take away my passport, but you can’t take away my right. You can’t shut me up; you can’t make me disappear—it’s not possible.”

His remarks, shared on his X platform account, reflect his unwavering determination to challenge the authorities and advocate for social justice in Nigeria.
