Over 110m Nigerians Issued National Identification Number – DG NIMC

The Director General of the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC), Abisoye Coker-Odusote, announced that over 110 million Nigerians have now been issued a National Identification Number (NIN).

Speaking on Monday in Abuja during the 6th National Identity Day, themed “Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) – Enabling Access to Services,” Coker-Odusote highlighted the progress made in the NIN enrolment. By the end of 2023, NIMC reported 104.16 million NIN registrations, with more than six million additional Nigerians enrolled this year alone. She emphasized the importance of Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) in driving Nigeria’s economic growth by connecting citizens to vital services such as social welfare, healthcare, education, and financial inclusion.

Coker-Odusote also acknowledged the Federal Government’s commitment to DPI, noting that NIMC has spearheaded efforts that resulted in the enrolment of over 110 million Nigerians. She added that this milestone offers a valuable opportunity to integrate the other two pillars of DPI—data exchange and payment systems—with foundational identity, supporting further development and adoption of the infrastructure.

President Ahmed Tinubu has also reaffirmed his dedication to building a robust DPI that ensures access to services for all Nigerians.
