Dangote Refinery: NNPC Reveals Varying Petrol Prices, Highest in Northern Regions

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has announced that petrol sourced from the Dangote Refinery will be sold at varying prices across the country, with the highest rates expected in northern regions.

In a statement released on Monday, titled “NNPC Ltd Releases Estimated Pump Prices of PMS from Dangote Refinery Based on September 2024 Pricing,” NNPC spokesperson Olufemi Soneye detailed the pricing structure.

According to the statement, the price of petrol could rise to ₦1,019 per litre in Borno State, while it will be priced at ₦999.22 per litre in Abuja, Sokoto, Kano, and other northern states. In contrast, southern consumers will see slightly lower prices, with petrol priced at ₦960 per litre in Oyo, Rivers, and other southern areas. The lowest price of ₦950 per litre will be available in Lagos and surrounding regions.

This pricing disparity underscores the logistical and distribution challenges faced by NNPCL, impacting fuel costs across different regions.

Soneye further explained, “The NNPC Ltd has released estimated prices of Premium Motor Spirit, also known as petrol (obtained from the Dangote Refinery), for its retail stations nationwide. Additionally, the NNPC Ltd clarifies that PMS prices are not set by the government but are negotiated between parties at arm’s length, in accordance with the Petroleum Industry Act.”

He also confirmed that NNPCL is currently paying Dangote Refinery in USD for the September 2024 PMS offtake, with naira transactions scheduled to commence in October.
