Borno Flood: Dangote Donates N1bn to Victims

Aliko Dangote, Chairman of the Aliko Dangote Foundation (ADF) and the National Committee on Flood Relief and Rehabilitation, has donated one billion Naira to support victims of the Maiduguri floods in Borno State.

The Presidential Committee on Flood Relief and Rehabilitation (PCFRR), which Dangote also leads, contributed an additional one billion Naira to aid those affected by the disaster.

During a visit to the flood-hit areas on Friday, Dangote, who is also President and CEO of Dangote Industries Limited, expressed sympathy for the victims and urged other Nigerians and stakeholders to assist. Describing the scale of the destruction as “mindboggling,” he said, “I have never seen a disaster of this magnitude before. The state urgently needs help, including infrastructure repairs to homes and roads, to restore normalcy.”

Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum thanked Dangote for his support and highlighted his significant contributions to the state’s development. He also encouraged others to follow Dangote’s example in offering assistance.

The recent floods in Maiduguri have displaced over a million people and claimed the lives of at least 30. According to Barkindo Mohammed, Director-General of the Borno State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), rescue operations have evacuated 3,683 people so far, with efforts ongoing.
