Security Guard Shot Dead in Suspected Cult Attack at Lagos Estate

A security officer identified as Stanley was reportedly shot dead during a suspected cult-related attack at Royale Estate in the Sangotedo area of Lagos State.

The incident occurred on Friday night when gunmen reportedly stormed the estate and opened fire before fleeing the area.

A source familiar with the incident said the attackers arrived between 10 p.m. and 11 p.m. and allegedly shot Stanley, who was on duty at the estate.

The source, who spoke anonymously due to security concerns, claimed that the victim was shot several times, including in the head.

“They just stormed the estate and started shooting. Stanley, the security man on duty, was shot several times, and in the head too, before they shot in the air and fled the area,” the source said.

The incident later sparked reactions on social media, including posts and videos shared on NaijaConfra, with some users alleging that suspected cult members were responsible for the attack.

However, the Lagos State Police Command has not confirmed that the incident was cult-related.

The command’s spokesperson, Abimbola Adebisi, confirmed the shooting on Monday and said preliminary findings indicated that Stanley was attacked by two unidentified men riding a motorcycle.

“The incident occurred. He was shot by two unknown individuals on a motorcycle. The command has launched an investigation into the incident. No suspect yet,” Adebisi said.

The police spokesperson did not disclose the motive for the attack or confirm whether the assailants were members of a cult group.

Investigations into the circumstances surrounding the killing are ongoing.
