The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governors’ Forum has appealed to members and supporters to remain calm and law-abiding as the Court of Appeal prepares to deliver judgment on the party’s lingering leadership dispute on Monday, March 9, 2026.
The forum, chaired by Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala Mohammed, made the call in a statement issued on Sunday in Abuja by its Director-General, Dr. Emmanuel Agbo.
Mohammed urged party faithful across the country to respect the judicial process and avoid actions that could escalate tensions before or after the ruling.
“Whatever the outcome of the court’s ruling, the PDP reaffirms its respect for the judicial process and its commitment to peace,” the statement said.
He emphasised that the judiciary plays a critical role in maintaining fairness, impartiality and stability within Nigeria’s democratic system.
According to the forum, the PDP has historically been a key pillar in the country’s democratic development, contributing to the strengthening of institutions and governance structures that safeguard citizens’ rights.
“The forum calls on party members and leaders to show maximum restraint and remain law-abiding before, during and after the ruling,” the statement added.
The governors further disclosed that the party leadership would convene immediately after the court’s decision to review its implications and determine the appropriate next steps.
Looking ahead to the 2027 general elections, the forum reassured party members with political ambitions that the PDP remains committed to providing a credible platform for them to contest and win elections.
Despite the Independent National Electoral Commission’s timetable for the polls already in place, the governors said the party would continue to protect the political aspirations of its members.
The statement stressed that democracy thrives on the diversity of opinions, healthy competition of ideas and the freedom of citizens to choose among credible alternatives.
Reiterating its confidence in the rule of law, the PDP Governors’ Forum assured Nigerians that the party would continue to uphold democratic values while offering what it described as a people-centred political alternative, regardless of the outcome of the court’s judgment.
