Many electricity consumers in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, have expressed frustration over the sudden migration of their electricity billing to Band A without receiving the 20 hours of power supply promised under the tariff band.
Residents in areas such as Kubwa, Lugbe, and surrounding areas spoke to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Sunday, revealing their shock at being moved to Band A without prior notice from the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC).
Band A customers are entitled to at least 20 hours of electricity daily and are charged N209.5 per kilowatt hour (KWh). However, many consumers complain they barely receive half of the guaranteed power supply.
Erica Ekama, a civil servant living in Kubwa, voiced her disappointment, stating, “I was shocked when I recharged my meter with N5,000 and only got 22.2 units. We don’t even get up to 10 hours of power a day where I live in Kubwa.
“Ekama also raised concerns about the uneven tariff application within her area, noting, “It’s frustrating that in the same Kubwa, some people are still buying electricity at the old rate. Why should I be paying for Band A services when I hardly get 10 hours of power in a day?”
