Traffic Alert: Apo-Wasa Road to Close Friday for President Tinubu’s Project Commissioning

Residents and motorists in Abuja are advised to prepare for temporary traffic disruptions on Friday as President Bola Ahmed Tinubu visits the Federal Capital Territory to inaugurate a key infrastructure project.

The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) announced that the Apo-Wasa Road will be closed to vehicular traffic from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. to ensure a smooth and secure commissioning ceremony.

In a statement issued Thursday, the FCT Minister’s Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, Lere Olayinka, confirmed that the temporary road closure is part of the logistics plan for the high-profile event.

“The Apo-Wasa Road, which is to be commissioned by President Bola Tinubu tomorrow, will be closed to vehicular movement between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m.,” Olayinka said.

He added that traffic officers would be deployed to key junctions to assist with diversions and ease movement.

“Motorists are therefore urged to use other routes during the period of closure. We appeal to road users that will be affected by this temporary closure to bear with the government while using alternative routes,” he stated.

The FCTA explained that the closure also allows the community to welcome the President and participate fully in the event, which marks the inauguration of the newly completed Left-Hand Service Carriageway of the Outer Southern Expressway (OSEX) Stage II, connecting Ring Road I Junction to Wasa Junction.

President Tinubu is scheduled to arrive at 2:30 p.m. to personally perform the inauguration.

Olayinka also noted that traders, mechanics, and shop owners at Apo Mechanic Village have voluntarily agreed to suspend business operations for the day in support of the ceremony.

“This cooperation from residents and business owners is commendable. It reflects the collective spirit to ensure the event goes smoothly,” he said.

Officials urge all commuters to plan ahead and expect brief inconvenience as Abuja hosts the high-level visit.
