Moji Danisa Named ‘Trailblazer in Tabloid Journalism’ by NUJ FCT Council

Abuja, Nigeria – Veteran journalist and media powerhouse Moji Danisa has been named the recipient of the Trailblazer in Tabloid Journalism Award by the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), FCT Council, in honour of her groundbreaking contributions to the field over a career spanning more than four decades.

Danisa, often hailed as Nigeria’s Queen of Tabloid Journalism, is credited with transforming the genre from sensationalism to a respected platform for storytelling and social commentary. Her fearless investigations, vibrant writing style, and bold entrepreneurial spirit have earned her wide acclaim.

“Moji’s leadership and innovation in storytelling resonate widely with the public,” said Jide Oyekunle, Secretary of the NUJ FCT Council. “She brought depth and dignity to tabloid journalism, challenging old stereotypes and creating space for powerful narratives.”

From her early days as a young reporter to rising through the ranks as sub-editor, Danisa has left an indelible mark on Nigeria’s media landscape. She held prominent editorial positions, including Editor of Climax Magazine and Editor-in-Chief of Whispers Magazine, before founding City News—Nigeria’s first British-style tabloid modeled after the News of the World.

“She’s been a consistent force in both print and broadcast journalism,” noted Grace Ike, Chairperson of the NUJ FCT Council. “We need more women like Moji to continue to speak truth to power.”

Danisa’s media influence goes beyond the printed word. As a founding staff member of BTV (now EBS) and Africa Independent Television (AIT), she produced award-winning TV programs and served as News Manager. Today, she leads Paparazzi Press as CEO and sits as Director at WOW Communications. She also briefly graced the screen in Nollywood’s formative years, including a role in Zeb Ejiro’s box office hit Domitila.

Her commitment to mentoring young journalists, particularly women, has made her a guiding light for the next generation. “Moji Danisa is a gift to our profession,” said Ike. “Her courage inspires us all to tell stories that matter.”

As she prepares to receive the NUJ FCT Council’s prestigious honour, Danisa remains dedicated to a media culture defined by bold truth-telling, innovation, and unwavering integrity.
