Former President Muhammadu Buhari has called on governors under the All Progressives Congress (APC) to adopt a people-focused approach to governance. Speaking during a meeting with the Progressive Governors’ Forum (PGF) at his Kaduna residence, Buhari emphasized that leadership is both a challenge and an opportunity, and that true progress comes from putting citizens’ welfare first.
In a statement released by his spokesperson, Mallam Garba Shehu, Buhari highlighted his personal example of integrity, noting he left office in 2023 with the same physical assets he had in 2015. He expressed appreciation to President Bola Tinubu’s administration for renovating his Kaduna home, stating that while the exterior remained unchanged, the interior saw significant improvements.
Buhari commended the APC governors for their efforts and encouraged them to remain dedicated to national development. He also expressed delight in seeing familiar faces among the governors and welcomed the newer ones.
Earlier, PGF Chairman and Imo State Governor, Senator Hope Uzodinma, led the delegation to felicitate with Buhari on the occasion of Eid-el-Fitr. Uzodinma praised the former president for his pivotal role in the founding and growth of the APC, describing him as a unifying figure and a symbol of integrity in Nigerian politics.
He lauded Buhari’s achievements in security, infrastructure, and economic reforms, including initiatives like the School Feeding Programme and the Anchor Borrowers Scheme. He also commended Buhari’s continued support for the party and his recent public endorsement of President Tinubu, calling it a reassuring gesture of unity and continuity.
The visit ended with a renewed call for Buhari’s guidance as the party works to deepen progressive politics and ensure continued governance success.
