Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Kayode Ajulo, SAN, said the new penalty would be enshrined in a revised anti-kidnapping law, which is expected to be passed by the Ondo State House of Assembly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cGoing forward, the punishment for kidnapping in Ondo State will be death by hanging. The law is being reviewed and due process will be followed,\u201d Ajulo declared.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He also revealed that the state would take decisive action against properties used in facilitating kidnappings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cAny building or facility linked to kidnapping activities will be demolished, but only after obtaining a proper court order. This government believes in the rule of law,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ajulo added that the policy is aimed at assuring potential investors of the state\u2019s commitment to safety and security.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWe want to send a clear message that Ondo State is safe for both people and their investments,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On the growing threat of cultism, the commissioner said the government would also strengthen laws and enforcement strategies to tackle the menace.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Also speaking at the briefing, the Special Adviser on Infrastructure, Lands, and Housing, Engr. Abiola Olawoye, announced the council\u2019s approval for the installation of 6,000 solar-powered street lights across the three senatorial districts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThis will improve security and visibility in key areas across the state,\u201d he noted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In a related development, the government approved the construction of a 6.7km dual carriageway linking Supare Junction to Akungba\u2013Ikare road in Akoko, aimed at enhancing road connectivity and easing traffic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Meanwhile, the Special Adviser on Union Matters and Special Duties, Mr. Bola Taiwo, disclosed that the state has also approved the selection process for the new Olu of Okeigbo by the warrant chiefs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThese actions reflect the government&#8217;s commitment to justice, development, and community stability,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Akure, Ondo State &ndash; The Ondo State Government has announced that anyone convicted of kidnapping in the state will face the death penalty by hanging, as part of sweeping new measures to curb rising insecurity.
